Southern Astrophysics Network
The Southern Astrophysics Network (SAN) brings together experts in observational and theoretical astrophysics from Argentina, Brazil and Chile. The main goal of SAN is to build a regional network which can provide a dynamical and stimulating framework to develop challenging projects, to optimise the use of the local observational and computational resources and, principally, to provide students and young scientists opportunities more active and fluid interactions among the institutions involved.
SAN will play a fundamental role in the achievement of the numerical results by facilitating the access to computational power. New simulations are running or will be run in several clusters as part of this international collaboration.
A unique opportunity of combining theory and observations in LatinAmerica: SAN will bring together two theoretical groups which own their own numerical codes: a hydrodynamical code and a semi-analytical code. Fostering the interaction with observers will provide our institutions an opportunity to make a larger and longstanding impact. This situation opens the possibility to develop new and independent projects which can provide experience, exposure and visibility to our students and young researchers. It will also provide a framework to build up expertise and capability in the geographical region for future projects such as LSST.
